The F1 Fever

F1 came and went, I was fortunate enough to be able to catch it live in Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this year. It was an exciting race with a 1-2 Red Bull finish without anyone giving them much of a fight. Luckily it didn’t rain this time around and we got to see the race in all it’s glory and heat !!

It was awesome being in SIC for the F1 especially since it was my first time. The place was packed, the screams from the F1 engine as the go full out on the back straight was deafening, not to mention the rumble they leave behind as well. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasently surprise with the way things were organised with sufficient eatieries and drinks around the grandstand areas. Only wish was not having to pay RM 25 for a damn hot dog and drink !!

Now that the race was over, it was time to sit back and relax. We just sat at the grass and had a few drinks while waiting for the F1 concert to begin. Wyclef Jean and Fatboy Slim will be gracing us with their presence and we were definitely pumped and ready for them !!

The location of the concert was at the helipad which was basically just opposite the main entrance of the Sepang circuit. Made our way there slowly since we were still early, once there we found out that the concert was now free. Thank god none of us paid for our tickets, wonder if there was a refund for those that actually did.

Once in there were a few booths already setup and one of them was Marlboro which obviously attracted the most people since they had the F1 car with their Marlboro girls standing around. They also had some games inside of the tent with their own deejay spinning.

By the time we got out of the place we were greeted by an awesome sunset. Most people were already there taking pictures so we made our way there to join the crowd. After all the picture taking we just sat down and enjoyed the beautiful sunset. A beautiful way to begin partying !!

We also manage to get some much needed food and drinks before making our way to the concert area. They were playing some awesome mixes while waiting for Wyclef to make an appearance and when he did, the crowd went WILD !!! Armed with his sunglasses and guitar he got the crowd singing to songs like No Woman No Cry.

Wyclef took a bottle of water and instead of drinking he poured it all over his head. The crowd went even wilder and he kept on singing hits after hits after hits, like an energizer bunny. He event started climbing the steel beam on the stage at one point and to top it all off during one of his songs a belly dancer came on stage. Hips definitely don’t lie.

Wyclef did an amazing job that night and I’m very sure whoever that was there would agree. He kept the crowd going for a few hours at least. By the time he was done most people were already drained, some even wandered off to the back to get some refreshments and some much needed rest.

Finally Norman Cook appeared on stage !!! The now resting crowd, somehow found their energy and started yelling and shouting again.

The one

Everyone started dancing to his beats and suddenly I felt like I was in a rave party !! He was still going through his set when suddenly the power went out. The crowd grew restless and started booing. Apparently it looked like a technical glitch and once all was sorted out he was dishing beats out again. It’s amazing how he could bring the crowd up again after that short break. He might not be the top dj currently but he definitely still knows how to anticipate and control the crowd. He was still going through his set when we all decided to head back home.

It was almost 11:30pm by then, we’ve been at Sepang for more than 12 hours. Sweaty, tired, aching body, sore calves, these are some of the souvenirs we brought back from us and last but not least the memories of an awesome awesome concert, right here in our home ground !!
