Yes folks, the Samsung Galaxy S has landed on our shores and you can count on Maxis once again to offer an irresistible offer that will make you want to rush out and get one, especially after you’ve seen the specifications and actual smartphone itself. I was fortunate enough to be invited by Maxis to attend the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S and I can let me tell you this having the HTC Desire in my pocket suddenly doesn’t make it seem that desirable any more 😀

The Samsung Galaxy S is going to be sold for RM 2,599 (RRP) as compared to RM 2,199 (RRP) for the HTC Desire but wait that’s not all !! If you decide to buy the Samsung Galaxy S and sign a one year contract with Maxis you can take home the phone with for for just RM 1,699. Yes for just RM 200 extra you get the Samsung Galaxy S which has the following features

Does that justify the extra RM 200  ?  You be the judge of that but for some, the 4″ Super AMOLED screen helped making the decision easier when comparing the Galaxy S with other Android enabled smartphone. Since it’s an exclusive offer from Maxis, if you want the phone on it’s own without the 1 year contract it’s going to have to wait till the 25th of June 🙂

If you want to have a look at the phone for yourself before deciding to purchase one, Maxis will be doing a roadshow to promote the Galaxy S. First stop, Sunway Pyramid. Early birds who purchase the phone could walk away with a free pair of speakers*.

Venue : LG2, Blue Wing, Section E, Sunway Pyramid
(in front of the Subway outlet)
Date : 25-27 June 2010 (Friday-Sunday)
Time : 10am to 10pm

Okay now let’s move on to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy.

It’s my first product launch and I was rather excited to see what Samsung has up they’re sleeves and how much better the Samsung Galaxy S really is. The launch took place yesterday evening at Rootz, Lot 10 and upon registering I was greeted by this stage which had colorful lighting surrounding a projection that said Samsung – Turn on Tomorrow.

The event started off with an introduction from the lovely Daphne Iking who was the emcee for the event. Mr Yu Jai Sui, Managing Director of Samsung Malaysia was called upon the stage and he shared his enthusiasm with their top of the line smartphone; “The Galaxy S is a feature-packed and high-end smartphone for people who want to be more effective, productive and better connected. We’re extremely proud of the innovation that has taken smartphones to the next level” says Mr Yu.

Next up on stage Maxis’ Chief Operating Officer, Jean-Pascal van Overbeke. He (Maxis) basically was thrilled to be partnering Samsung Malaysia Electronics to be the first to exclusively offer the Galaxy S locally, yes once again Maxis has manage to get exclusivity just like they did with the HTC Desire. He also mentioned that the Galaxy S complements Maxis’ widest range of Android offerings in the market and I for one am happy that even more Android powered smartphones are flooding the market. This will definitely cause the prices of the smartphones to be competitive which is always a good thing for consumers.

There was a demo on the Samsung Galaxy S and what impressed me was it was the smartphone was connected to the projector. Whatever was done on the device was also shown on the big screen. There were also some performances and models walking around the stage with the Samsung Galaxy S in their hands !! I WANT !!! I was talking about the Galaxy S okay 😀

There were also some demo units for us to have a feel of the Galaxy and boy was I blown away by the Super AMOLED display !! Though I wished that the phones came with sim cards or access to the internet to really play around with the phone. I was dying to load Youtube and watch a HD movie trailer on the Galaxy S 😀

Here’s more pictures from the event
