Multi touch keyboard

If you’ve read some of my post on the HTC Desire reviews, you would know that the Desire keyboard doesn’t allow multi touch and for those that can type very fast this has been an issue. Thanks to the awesome guys over at xda, a workaround has been found. Introducing the Droid X multi touch keyboard on the HTC Desire or any other 2.1 Android phone you own.

After using Swype for sometime going back to a tap keyboard feels kinda weird but if you prefer typing then do check out this keyboard as it really improves the typing experience over the included HTC one. Now you must be wondering why am I back on a normal keyboard after using Swype, if you’re not you’re gonna find out anyway 😛

It includes the voice-to-text button on the keyboard as well which was previously only available on the Nexus One. Yes there was already a moded HTC keyboard that included that before but it didn’t have multi touch. So this latest port allows you to have multi touch, haptic feedback AND voice-to-text feature !!

I’ve just installed it and am still playing around with it but so far so good except one gripe; it doesn’t automatically convert i to uppercase when it’s keyed in. For the voice-to-text, I had an error the first time I tried to use it as it was looking for Google Voice. Fret not, here are the download links for the files you need to make the magic happen. Now are you ready for the best part ?? You don’t need ROOT to run it !! Yes even your stock untouched 2.1 Android phone can install and use it !! 😀

  2. Install voice search app
