Twicca an awesome twitter client

Being addicted to twitter has had me go through most of the major twitter apps for the Android. I’ve tried the official Twitter app, Twitdroid, Seesmic, Touiteur and last but not least Twicca. The quest for a fast, light and full of features Twitter client ended when I installed Twicca. To sweeten the deal even further its FREE though still in beta.

The first thing you notice after launching Twicca is it’s minimalistic interface. You get your stream with all the necessary information without too much clutter on the screen maximising the available area on the screen. There isn’t much themes or color settings to be configured but the carbon black finish gives it a really nice classy finish.

When I say it’s packed of features I mean it really has a lot of features and for a free product that is still under beta I’m really impressed. One thing that is still missing is the support for multiple accounts but if you only have one like it then it wouldn’t be a big deal at all. Creating, viewing and managing lists is easy , trending topics can be viewed by different spans of time and you get full retweet support showing not only who’s retweeting stuff in your timeline, but who you’ve retweeted and what tweets of yours have been retweeted, as well.

Here are some of the features available

  • Notification
  • Auto pager
  • Search
  • Post with photo/video upload
  • Shorten URL
  • Geo tagging
  • Saved searches
  • Recent hashtags
  • Reply history
  • Lists
  • Retweet
  • Color label
  • Managing twitter profile
  • Trending topics
  • Local trends
  • Extending function by plug-in
  • Widget
  • Uploading profile icon
  • Report for spam
  • Block user
  • Image Preview
  • Geotagging with map preview

The ability to color code tweets between different people is also a really cool feature. At least you know which tweets that you really want to pay attention to while scrolling through your timeline. Twicca also allows you to expand a shortened url before opening it, makes it easier to spot spam. Viewing an image attach to a tweet opens within the app itself and you even have the option to rotate the pic. Comes in handy for those who have uploaded the pic without checking the orientation first.

So far Twicca has been the longest Twitter client I’ve been using and there’s been quite a few updates over the months and with each updates there’s significant improvements. If you still haven’t found a Twitter client you like, give Twicca a go and even if you have a favourite app at the moment there’s no harm trying Twicca out to see how it compares, after all it’s FREE, fast and very configurable !!

Selamat Berpuasa

Filed under: Events — yoga @ 9:59 am

Just want to take this opportunity to wish everyone who is fasting Selamat Berpuasa. May this blessed month illuminate your heart,mind and soul and may all your prayers be answered. May He also grace your home and family with warmth and peace

The month of fasting has come,
the emperor’s banner has arrived,
withhold your hand from food,
the spirit’s table has arrived.

The soul has escaped from separation
and bound nature’s hands;
the heart of error is defeated,
the army of faith has won.

The army of the snorting chargers
has put its hand to plunder,
from the fire of the strikers of fire
the soul is brought to lamentation.

The Cow was goodly,
Moses son of Imran appeared;
through him the dead became living
when it was sacrificed.

Fasting is as our sacrifice,
it is the life of out soul;
let us sacrifice all our body,
since the soul has arrived as guest.

Fortitude is as a sweet cloud,
wisdom rains from it,
because it was in such a month of fortitude
that the Koran arrived.

When the carnal soul is in need,
the spirit goes into ascension;
when the gate of the prison is broken,
the soul reaches the Beloved.

The heart has rent the curtain of darkness
and winged up to the sky;
the heart, being of the angels,
has again arrived.

Quickly clutch the rope out of this body’s well;
at the top of the well of water cry,
“Joseph of Canaan has arrived.”

When Jesus escaped from the donkey
his prayers became accepted;
wash your hands,
for the Table has arrived from heaven.

Wash your hands and your mouth,
neither eat nor speak;
seek that speech and that morsel
which has come to the silent ones.

(A poem in time of Ramadan. Rumi`s Ghazal No. 892 from the Divan-e Shams-e Tabrizi, translated by A.J. Arberry, “Mystical Poems of Rumi,” 1968.)

Finally Facebook for Android updated

Filed under: Android,Gadgets,Phones — yoga @ 10:29 am

The one thing that I’ve envied the iPhone users for was the Facebook client. Yes there is one for the Android but then it was sucky to say the least. It provided very basic functionality and everything else was linked to the mobile Facebook website. This is no longer the case, finally the Facebook app for the Android receives the attention, love and update it needs.

Redesigned interface

The new version has new features that makes accessing Facebook much easier ie Events, friend requests and even video playback. Upon launching the app you’re greeted with a new layout with a stream of thumbnail photos that sit at the bottom of the screen; which shows your friend’s recent shared photo,video or photo album. This feature is exclusive to the Android, well at least for now 🙂

Here’s the full list of feature changes:

An updated homescreen with:

  • The ability to post a status update or search for friends with just one click
  • A new photo reel that enables easy viewing of photos and videos from friends in your News Feed
  • A draggable Notifications drawer where you can easily see if a friend posted a note on your wall, commented or liked a post or tagged you in a photo
  • Video playback from the app. Similar to the Facebook for iPhone application, we are using the H.264 baseline profile for encoding videos
  • Support for Events. You can now review your upcoming events, read your event details, and even RSVP – all from the application
  • Respond to friend requests without leaving the application
Contact integration

Contact integration

Another new feature that I’ve noticed is the ability to sync your Facebook contacts with your Contacts in the phone. HTC has already included their very own Facebook app that integrates with the contacts, I’m guessing the Facebook one doesn’t integrate with the rest of HTC exclusive apps such as FriendStream. Will have to try it out later, in the mean time head to the Market and download the latest Facebook app NOW !!!

HTC rolling out Android 2.2, 720p video, iTunes sync to unlocked Euro Desires

If you don’t already know by  now there’s been a few rumors flying around stating that finally the much anticipated Froyo update is coming out on the HTC Desire. Now there’s confirmation from HTC themselves regarding this and apparently there are people with unlocked Desire that have been getting the OTA Froyo notifications. If you’re using an AP set this would be a chance to be jumping with joy as you’ll be getting the update sooner than local Desire owners 🙂

“The Android 2.2 (FroYo) update for HTC Desire will start rolling out across Europe this weekend. As well as including the complete set of Android 2.2 features, the update will contain a few special additions of our own through the latest iteration of HTC Sense. The update will provide 720p video capture, HTC’s App Share widget, as well as our enhanced HTC Caller ID, and improved multi-language keyboard. Also, through the update, HTC Sync will allow HTC Desire users to sync their music with iTunes.

HTC Desire users will be notified that the over-the-air update is available to download when their phone automatically checks for software updates. The update won’t delete any of the phone’s content. However, due to the size of the update, we would advise using a WiFi connection to download it wherever possible to avoid additional data charges.

This update will initially roll out to unlocked HTC Desire handsets. Operator specific versions of the update are undergoing testing and we expect to make them available in several weeks’ time.”
