The iPhone 4 has landed on our shores and it was officially launched by Maxis yesterday. It was surprising at first to know that the registration for media starts at 11am at night. Yes, this time around Maxis went all out for the iPhone 4 launch and did something different. Maxis ensured customers received a WOW (walk-out-working) experience for their iPhone customers. There were many iPhone 4 application booths setup outside the registration hall to showcase FaceTime, iBooks, Iband and many of the iPhone apps developed by Maxis. There was also an iClinic booth to help new users of the iPhone to familiarise themselves with the new functions and features.

When I got there I was overwhelmed with the amount of people that were queuing up for the phone and trust me the queue was long. The first person to queue in line was there since 6pm apparently, 6pm right up to midnight !!!! Talk about being in love with the iPhone 4 !!

Thank god the registration for the media was on another floor altogether but even then it was quite crowded.

While waiting for the launch to begin I decided to head down to the registration hall to check out the madness. First let’s see the queue.

Yes that’s right, while everyone was busy talking about Maxis and the iPhone plans Digi has been slowly brewing a storm. To not be outdone by Maxis they are having a iPhone 4 carnival on the 25th and 26th of September at Quill 9, 112 Jalan Semangat, PJ.

More shall be unveiled soon as the media launch is going to happen today at 6:00pm.

Rumour as has it that Maxis will be changing their plans during the launch tonight hence why the plans has been taken off the main site.

I seriously wonder how good the Digi plan since no plan rates are out yet but if is causing Maxis worried it should be pretty good.

This indeed is going to be very interesting as both Maxis and Digi try to outdo each other to get the first batch of iPhone 4 out to the public 🙂

Hiking Broga

Filed under: Events — yoga @ 1:10 pm
Tags: , , , , ,

I think It’s time to start writing about stuff that’s not related to technology and make this blog a little more personal 🙂 I’ve always wanted to hike up Broga Hill and have seen numerous photo’s from friends doing exactly that. After much delay, plans were made to hike early Raya morning. Yes, a crazy bunch of us decided that we should hike Broga on the first day of raya, hoping that it wouldn’t as as crowded since a lot of people are away for the long holiday.

After some research and asking friends who has been there before, it basically takes around 30-45 mins to get to Broga and another 45-60 mins to hike the 4 peaks. Plans were made to wake up at 4am and leave KL latest by 5am. This will ensure that we get there just in time for the sunrise.

If you’re not that familiar with the area or have no idea how to get there here is a general guide

  • If you are going by Sg Besi just keep going straight towards the direction of Kajang/Seremban (South Bound)
  • Take the Kajang exit (211). The toll charges should be RM 1.80
  • Keep to the left after the toll and follow the sign board that says Kajang/Semenyih.
  • Keep towards the right and keep going straight.
  • You will reach a toll (Sungai Ramal) and have to pay RM 1
  • After some distance you’ll reach another toll (Bukit Kajang) and pay RM 1 again.
  • Keep to your left after paying the toll and take the exit to Jalan Semenyih.
  • Turn right at the traffic light and head to Semenyih Town.
  • If you take the wrong turning at the traffic light you’ll head in Kajang town instead of Semenyih.
  • Just keep going straight until you reach a small town (Semenyih), keep driving straight.
  • You’ll eventually need to make a left into Taman Tasik Semenyih/Nottingham University/Kampung Broga.
  • Keep going straight untill you see a signboard on your left “Simpang ke Broga 500m” as you approach a traffic light.
  • There should also be a Petronas petrol station on the right and as you turn to the left you’ll pass by the Petronas so its behind you.
  • Keep going straight until you see a Rabbit Farm on the right side of the road.
  • You can choose to park your car at the side of the road or inside the palm oil plantation. There’s a RM 2 charge if you decide to park inside though.
  • Congrats now you’re at the foot of Broga Hill.

Also these are the things that you should bring along with you

  • A camera
  • A small towel
  • A bottle of water, depending on your consumption a big bottle is more than enough. I only manage to drink half.
  • Torchlight
  • Rain coat. The disposable kind at 7-11 is more than enough and it’s cheap
  • Torchlight. You’ll need it especially when it’s so dark early in the morning
  • Hiking or all terrain shoes are definitely recommended. It will help when you’re making your way down
  • Sandals to change into when you’re down
  • An extra pair of shirt to change into when you’re done hiking
  • Sunblock/insect repellent if you think you need it
  • Some light snacks (chocolates/fruits/sandwiches)
  • Enjoy yourself and go at your own pace 🙂

It was drizzling lightly when we got there, thank god for the rain coats. We spent 10-15 mins getting everything and everyone organised and soon after we began our hike. It’s surprising to see there were people already on their way down as we just started our climb at around 6am. The hike through the oil palm plantation/woods are relatively easy but there are certain parts that are quite steep and slippery. There are a few forks along the way and we just kept to the right all the way. At least easier to trace back our steps if we got lost 😀

Eventually after about 1/2 hour of hiking you should reach the clearing and you’ll see a steep hill which brings you to the first peak of Broga Hill and you’ll be presented with this lovely view. Too bad it was cloudy and the sun wasn’t to be really seen anywhere but still the view from the top was worth the hike.

Within minutes it was full of people

Google’s Anagram

Filed under: Technology — yoga @ 10:34 am

The guys at Google certainly love to have little surprised planted into their search engine. The latest one is with the word anagram. Just google the word ‘anagram’ and see what’s the result.

Yup, it comes up with a suggestion of “nag a ram”. No, Google hasn’t gone mad it’s just an anagram, of anagram !! LOL

For the record, the accepted definition of anagram is “a word, phrase, or name formed by rearranging the letters of another, such as cinema, formed from iceman.”

Sketch Online – an addictive, multiplayer drawing game

Were you a fan of Win, Lose or Draw ? If you don’t know what that is then what about the board game Pictionary ? If any of these sounds familiar to you then you already have a basic idea on how to play Sketch Online.  Sketch Online is a fun, fast-paced online multiplayer game where you can play with your friends or with random strangers on your Android. The game is simple, you basically have to guess a word based on what’s drawn by the other players.

Choosing a room

When you load up the game you have the option of picking which room you would like to play in (Misc, Difficult, Animals, etc) where up to 10 other real players will be waiting to pit their drawing and guessing skills against yours. Once a player starts drawing the timer starts and everyone starts guessing the word as they go. The drawer gets points for people getting the word and viewers get different level of points based on who guesses first, second, etc. It’s so simple and amazingly fun.

Guess the drawing

Guess the drawing

The gameplay is surprisingly smooth and even running on only an EDGE connection, I was still able to play the game without much lag or hiccups. This game is a lot of fun, especially when you have a friend or two looking over your shoulder – everyone wants to get involved. The negative side of the game would be some players who can’t seem to comprehend the objective of the game and start writing out the word for people to “guess”. Kicking them out of the room will be the best solution in this case.

The competitors

Do give it a go and see, better yet get your friends involved and see how much fun it can be. Be warned though that this game is highly addictive; I somehow managed to spend 1 1/2 hour on it without taking a break !!! 😀
