The iPhone 4 has landed on our shores and it was officially launched by Maxis yesterday. It was surprising at first to know that the registration for media starts at 11am at night. Yes, this time around Maxis went all out for the iPhone 4 launch and did something different. Maxis ensured customers received a WOW (walk-out-working) experience for their iPhone customers. There were many iPhone 4 application booths setup outside the registration hall to showcase FaceTime, iBooks, Iband and many of the iPhone apps developed by Maxis. There was also an iClinic booth to help new users of the iPhone to familiarise themselves with the new functions and features.

When I got there I was overwhelmed with the amount of people that were queuing up for the phone and trust me the queue was long. The first person to queue in line was there since 6pm apparently, 6pm right up to midnight !!!! Talk about being in love with the iPhone 4 !!

Thank god the registration for the media was on another floor altogether but even then it was quite crowded.

While waiting for the launch to begin I decided to head down to the registration hall to check out the madness. First let’s see the queue.

As I proceeded into the “waiting” hall I was greeted by a very big “iPhone” displaying FaceTime

They have quite a number of iPhone 4 for you to play around with as well as trained Maxis personals to help answer any questions you might have about the iPhone 4. There were some games as well and you could walk away with some prizes.

Since I already had a chance to play with the iPhone 4 before, I walked on to the next hall which was basically the actual iPhone 4 registration booths. I was greeted with tonnes of cameras and 60 happy smiling faces; soon to be owners of the iPhone 4. They were rehearsing the handing off ceremony of the iPhones 4 while the video crew made sure they had all the cameras covering the necessary angles. Did I mention that the video was going to be a live feed ?!?!?! Amazing coverage on the iPhone 4 launch !!

Next up was the media conference where Mr Sandip Das, CEO of Maxis Berhad gave his insights of how close they have been working with Apple and how their first partnership with them has lead them to today. Next up was a presentation by T. Kugan, VP and Head of Product.

After all the formalities, it was time to present the Maxis 10 reviewers with their very own iPhone 4 to review and test for the next couple of week. It will be interesting to see the insights of these 10 different individuals on how they use the iPhone 4 and what features they find most useful and helpful.

Next was the moment most of the press/media have been waiting for 😀 The lucky draw !!! Two lucky people will be bringing home the iPhone 4. Pretty sure everyone was hoping it was his/her name card that was picked but alas there could only be two lucky people and the first one was all the way from Sarawak and the second iPhone 4 went to someone from PC.COM ….

Manage to get a picture of the Maxis 10 reviewers before I left the place. There’s only 7 of them at the event as the other 3 couldn’t make it.

Here’s a link to their blogs so you can know more about the iPhone 4 as their being their journey reviewing it.

Here’s the blog for the other 3 people who couldn’t attend that night

That’s the end of the iPhone launch for me. There was an after party happening at G-Six but this poor soul needed to go back and get some rest. Walking out of the hall to the car park I was still amazed at the number of people queuing to get their iPhone 4 and this was at 1am in the morning. As much as I hate to admit this, the iPhone 4 has definitely created enough hype and buzz to make many go ga ga over it. What’s so awesome about the iPhone 4 ? Well that’s something you’ll have to head down to your nearest Maxis outlets that offers the iPhone 4 to see it for yourself.

You’ll be able to get your hands on it from 26th September at selected Maxis Centres (KLCC, Sunway, Pavilion, Gardens and TTDI) and for those in other states, worry not you can get them at all Maxis Centres from 27th September onwards.
