Peter Pan The Musical

I have to admit when I first heard people mentioning that Peter Pan was coming to town, I wondered what the fuss was about for a band from Indonesia. It was only later I realised my mistake and everyone was talking about Peter Pan The Musical.

The Gala Premiere of Peter Pan The Musical took place at the newly refurbished Amphitheatre in Sunway Lagoon on the 26th November 2010. The musical production is a first collaboration between local and international talents.

The show was directed by Chris Colby, who have been involved in musical productions such as Aladdin, Cinderella, Beauty & the Beast, Oliver and Annie, he leads a 16 member cast line-up who hails from Europe, South America, the Philippines, Indonesia and of course not forgetting, Malaysia.

A bunch of us gathered up and got there before 8pm as that’s the time the show was supposed to start. The place was already packed and the best seats in the house (middlerow) were practically full. It took a while for the show to start as Mr Aaron Soo, CEO of Sunway Lagoon gave a speech followed by Mr Chris Colby & David Kort, Producers of the show.

There were vendors walking around selling drinks, light refreshments (popcorn) and even ice creams. As usual expect to pay a premium price for having it delivered right to your seat. Being little kiddies that we were, we ended up getting an ice cream (the cone type) for RM 5 each. Expensive ? Yes but definitely worth it 🙂

The production was good but honestly the sound setup left much to be desired. Since we were sitting by the side which is really close to the speakers we were practically deaf by the end of the show. The speakers were just blasting away and top volume. If you’re gonna catch the show, make sure to come early and get the middle rows. Apart from that I expected more from a West End and Disney collaboration. The Disney magic didn’t really come through and I felt that the stage was a bit small.

Apart from that the songs and costumes were just awesome and everything went without a hitch and was a succesful night. It was a kaleidoscope night of colours, music, lights and even SNOW !!! Well not the real thing obviously but it’s nice to see it falling from the top.
