Do you ever get into a situation where you were listening to your songs on the SD card and suddenly it starts playing your notification or alerts as well ? How about wanting to keep your Gallery clean and not have it display images of your cache or icons from certain applications as well ? If you’ve answer yes to either one, then here’s the solution to fix that problem; create a “.nomedia” file.

Here’s an easy trick that should only take a couple of minutes to keep unwanted audio files from popping up.

1.On your computer, open Notepad or any other text editor

2.Save the blank file as “.nomedia”
Make sure that the Save as type is set as “All Files” instead of “Text documents”

3.Copy that file to the folder on your SD card containing audio files you don’t want to show up.

4.Reboot your phone and the files should no longer be viewable

This same trick works for folders containing images or videos that you don’t want to appear in the Gallery app. The files will still be accessible from your original app or an explorer like Astro, but you’ll finally be able to stop hearing “You Got Mail” notifications after a great song.

If you can’t be bothered with all the work involved then fret not, there’s an app that does it for you. StudioKUMA .nomedia Manager; just look it up in the Market and it basically does the same thing for you with a click of a button.

.nomedia files are used to tell media players not to scan certain folders.

StudioKUMA .nomedia Manager is a simple tool to manage .nomedia files in your SD card. Just tap and hold to toggle, or you can also perform multi-select.

V1.2 Adds function to find all folders with .nomedia file.
